Little Compton was originally settled by the Sakonnet people. It was later settled by European settlers in the 1600’s. It has long been known as a place of verdant countryside, abundant water and a perfect place to enjoy nature.

As more and more families craved an escape from the big U.S. cities, and wanted somewhere a little less crowded than the likes of Newport, Little Compton became a place to be seen in the summer for some of the most important families and individuals in North America.
Now, Little Compton is known as a great family vacation spot: quiet, plenty of beach space, and views extending as far as Martha’s Vineyard.
The town commons is a quaint, quiet spot where you can grab lunch, shop for basic necessities and post your mail all within a couple of steps from each other.
The Common’s Lunch is a great spot to eat with a wide variety of dishes available. The Art Cafe is also a cool, little spot to grab a great coffee all while enjoying the luscious garden outside.
Walker’s Roadside Stand is a great spot to pick up freshly picked veggies and other home made goodies.
Carolyn’s Sakonnet Vineyard is also not to be missed. There is an array of wines to try and buy and there are daily tastings in the summer.
There are also several delicious restaurants in the area including The Red Dory in Tiverton, which has just recently come under new ownership.
Needless to say, Little Compton is a pretty special place where there are plenty of places to explore, whether you are renting a home for the summer or considering buying a home in the area.
